FREE ONLINE SALON: YANIQUE HUME + GABRI CHRISTA

Jamaican dancer, Yoruba priestess and anthropologist Dr. Yanique Hume brings an interdisciplinary approach to Caribbean dance, embodiment and identity, situating categories of movement within histories of migration and resistance. Her work connects academic inquiry with choreographic practice. Curaçaoan filmmaker, dancer, professor and choreographer Gabri Christa responds through narrative, filmic and movement-based explorations of Surinamese womanhood and diasporic memory. Together, they explore storytelling through the body and lens.

The Robert Farris Thompson Maroon Institute for Afro-Diasporic Arts hosts monthly virtual meetings consisting of select scholars and artists, and their dialogue. These sessions are accessible in real time through the livestream and later, via YouTube.
